Stripey layer cake quilt

 I love a stripey quilt and the layer cake pattern for some stash busting. For this quilt, I mashed those two ideas up and created 6” by 6” squares with a dark/light/dark or light/dark/light combination. The squares were then arranged in a horizontal/vertical check pattern (ie direct neighbours were the opposite and the diagonals the same kind). 

This came together fairly quickly and I love the result. It looks busy in the picture, but in reality it is all right. The muted colour and solid strips give it enough calm. There are some cute animals to be searched and found. 

Background is a hilarious pig in the mud print that I collected at project Linus. Finished size was 92cm by 121cm (36” by 48”). Will be donated to project Linus in March 2024.

This quilt was made up based on this free tutorial . I used 12 strips of a fairy tale themed jelly roll with white background fabric to create the granny square quilt. I love how the blocks come together, it’s a great project if you only have some time here and there.  To get the size requirements right, I only made 12 blocks. Each block is 9“ before sewing and 8.5“ after sewing. I used 3“ strips (finished width 2 1/2“) in between squares. I used a donated fabric From Project Linus for the backing and a cherry red binding. I quilted around the blocks as well as a smaller square inside the block. Final size is  90cm by 118 cm (36“ by 46“).

Granny square quilt #3

 Oh I love the granny square quilt pattern! It is fabulous to use up any pre-cut strip and/or scraps of fabric. This one is my third with a white background - a true tried and tested pattern. Links to #1 and #2 for comparison.  Finished size 92cm by 119 cm (36”x49”). Donated to project Linus in February 2024.

Stoplight quilt

With the remainder of the jelly roll used for this quilt with the addition of some solid fabrics, I made a stoplight quilt. The PDF of this free pattern can be downloaded  here . I’ve sewn up a total of 30 blocks, arranged in 5 rows and 6 columns. The final dimension of the quilt is 92cm by 126cm (36 inch by 50inch).  I used some funny pug fabric and some leftover blocks from the diamond quilt for the back. Finished the quilt with a bright cherry red binding. This quilt was Donated to Project Linus QLD chapter. Hope it will find a new happy owner.
