Plus positive quilt

This quilt was based on this free tutorial and made up with a fairytale themed jelly roll. Instead of using white solids as the contrast as I first had planned, I found a solid dark navy at a project Linus meeting. The cutting process is pretty intense, so is the arranging of the rows. Once the first few liens are there it gets easier. The pattern I used is made with  2 1/2“ strips. The finished size was 95 cm by 110 cm (37“ by 43“). Next time, I might add a couple more rows to make the quilt a bit longer. The tutorial can be used for any size strip, I might try 3.5” next, which is nice for fabrice with larger patterns. The backing fabric was from my stash. Due to the contrast in colour on the quilt top I came up with a quilting pattern that did not cross from dark to light fabric. The result is a pretty geometric pattern on the back, look like honey combs almost. Finished it with a navy binding.

I absolutely adore the quilt, it is looking fresh and modern.

 I set myself a New Year’s resolution! Make a quilt for my son. He sees me making all those baby and children’s quilts for project Linus, and he is sometimes asking me: when do I get my quillt? My son is turning 12 in June, so I thought I research and test a pattern before I dive in to make his 12th birthday quilt. The pattern I chose is the stained glass window quilt from quiltylove. I make this test baby size quilt up with a white background, light grey diamonds and bright primary colour solid gems (the „windows“). I really love this bright, happy version, but for my 12yo (almost teenage) son, it will be blues and greens. Spoiler: I did not manage to finish the quilt for his big day, but had started a couple of panels for him, so he got a little peek of what it will look like.  Final size was 90cm x 120 cm, 36” by 48”. Will be donated to project Linus hopefully in August  2025.

Little red riding hood granny square quilt

This quilt was made up based on this free tutorial . I used 12 strips of a fairy tale themed jelly roll with white background fabric to create the granny square quilt. I love how the blocks come together, it’s a great project if you only have some time here and there.  To get the size requirements right, I only made 12 blocks. Each block is 9“ before sewing and 8.5“ after sewing. I used 3“ strips (finished width 2 1/2“) in between squares. I used a donated fabric From Project Linus for the backing and a cherry red binding. I quilted around the blocks as well as a smaller square inside the block. Final size is  90cm by 118 cm (36“ by 46“).

Garden under the sea

  For this quilt I followed the snowball fight quilt , which I used before . The fabrics were some assorted animal prints, some under water themed, and some more garden inspired (flowers and bees). They were tied together with the solid colour, a dark petrol. The background was a mix of solid navy and some puppies. The quilting lines followed the inside of the octagons. Finished size 88x123 cm (35“x48“). Donated to project Linus QLD chapter in November 2021.
