Year of the Snake quilt 3

Image
After my first trial snake, I still had some grey background and pink solids in my stash, so I made up another snake, because they are just too cute.   I scraped the last of my offcuts together for the wadding, and the backing was also a mishmash of a few fabrics that I could not find a project for. Stash busting satisfaction rating 10/10!  Final size 105 x 105 cm, 42“ by 42“. Will be donated to project Linus in August 2025.

A good colleague of mine is expecting a baby. That calls for a quilt of course. My colleague is of Chinese heritage and given it’s the year of the snake when the baby will be born, I browsed some patterns until I found this cute one on Etsy.  The pattern has a heap of color options shown, and I wanted to go for the red and yellow snake on a teal background. The red and yellow is a nod to their heritage.  First I wanted to get a backing fabric with some Australian wildlife, to reflect their second home. However, my colleague also loves puppies and I had this cute bulldog fabric in my stash, which contrasted nicely with the front of the quilt.  Final size 105 x 105 cm, 42“ by 42“. The baby will be arriving in June and in china - I will gift the quilt once mum and bub are back in Australia.

After completing my test quilt for my son, I heard that a good colleague of mine is expecting a baby. That calls for a quilt of course. My colleague is Chinese heritage and given it’s the year of the snake when the baby will be born, I browsed some patterns until I found this cute one on Etsy.  Before making up the real thing, I wanted to make up the pattern once. I still had some grey backing fabric and pink solid, paired with a scaly looking purple. This quilt is so much fun to sew up - this particular one was done on my new sewing machine and during a tropical cyclone. Alfred was one rare cyclone that made it to Brisbane. It stalled and luckily did not hit us hard, but we got off work and school in anticipation, which meant a lot of free time sewing. Final size 105 x 105 cm, 42“ by 42“. It will be donated to project Linus in August 2025.

Yellow wave quilt

Stash busting time! Rummaging through my scrap stash and work out a quilt that can turn waste into Beauty is one of my favourite things to do. The tried and tested wave quilt is an ideal pattern, easily adaptable to the fabric that is available. This one is yellow background and blues/greens for the waves. For the backing, I used some red and some brown fabric that sat in the stash for ages It is a small one, 87x104 cm (34” by 41”). I will drop it at the next Linus Meeting make it to, hopefully in August.

Stained glass window test quilt

I set myself a New Year’s resolution! Make a quilt for my son. He sees me making all those baby and children’s quilts for project Linus, and he is sometimes asking me: when do I get my quillt? My son is turning 12 in June, so I thought I research and test a pattern before I dive in to make his 12th birthday quilt. The pattern I chose is the stained glass window quilt from quiltylove. I make this test baby size quilt up with a white background, light grey diamonds and bright primary colour solid gems (the „windows“). I really love this bright, happy version, but for my 12yo (almost teenage) son, it will be blues and greens. Spoiler: I did not manage to finish the quilt for his big day, but had started a couple of panels for him, so he got a little peek of what it will look like.  Final size was 90cm x 120 cm, 36” by 48”. Will be donated to project Linus hopefully in August  2025.
