From the leftover fabrics of this quilt and with the tried and tested pattern from this quilt, I made this gem. This time, I went for 1-4-4-4 pieces of different fabrics instead of the 1-4-8 that is used before. This gave me more flexibility when trying to get the most out of the scraps. I love how this quilt looks retro and modern at the same time.

Now, usually I am not showing the full backing. But this one I just had to. Again, trying to make most of leftover fabrics, I made this green meadow. It makes me so happy - flowers in the front, meadow in the back. In terms of quilting, I tried a new technique from the  original tutorial  I used a multi-zigzag about 1inch apart. This makes the top less blocky and worked perfectly for this quilt. Finished size 88x114 cm (35“x45“).

I intended to donate the quilt to Project Linus, but at the final meeting for the year, the lovely ladies talked me into giving it to my work colleague who just had a baby girl. I was a bit hesitant because I don’t know her that well, but now I am excited to hand this quilt to her new family.

This quilt was made up based on this free tutorial . I used 12 strips of a fairy tale themed jelly roll with white background fabric to create the granny square quilt. I love how the blocks come together, it’s a great project if you only have some time here and there.  To get the size requirements right, I only made 12 blocks. Each block is 9“ before sewing and 8.5“ after sewing. I used 3“ strips (finished width 2 1/2“) in between squares. I used a donated fabric From Project Linus for the backing and a cherry red binding. I quilted around the blocks as well as a smaller square inside the block. Final size is  90cm by 118 cm (36“ by 46“).

Granny square quilt #3

 Oh I love the granny square quilt pattern! It is fabulous to use up any pre-cut strip and/or scraps of fabric. This one is my third with a white background - a true tried and tested pattern. Links to #1 and #2 for comparison.  Finished size 92cm by 119 cm (36”x49”). Donated to project Linus in February 2024.

Stoplight quilt

With the remainder of the jelly roll used for this quilt with the addition of some solid fabrics, I made a stoplight quilt. The PDF of this free pattern can be downloaded  here . I’ve sewn up a total of 30 blocks, arranged in 5 rows and 6 columns. The final dimension of the quilt is 92cm by 126cm (36 inch by 50inch).  I used some funny pug fabric and some leftover blocks from the diamond quilt for the back. Finished the quilt with a bright cherry red binding. This quilt was Donated to Project Linus QLD chapter. Hope it will find a new happy owner.
